This presentation offers a comprehensive overview of the advanced semiconductor research ecosystem at National Taiwan University (NTU), with a specific focus on next-generation nano-electronics and compound semiconductor. The talk explores the academic landscapes of NTU and the Graduate School of Advanced Technology (GSAT), highlighting key roles in cultivating top-tier semiconductor talent in Taiwan. Furthermore, the talk also introduces the design, fabrication and characterization capabilities and outlines the core objectives and progress of the NSTC (National Science and Technology Council), technical bridging of ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) and TSRI (Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute). Finally, a critical joint-research hub bridging academia and the Industry is formed and a robust semiconductor ecosystem that seamlessly integrates academic research, technological innovation, and industrial manufacturing.

About the speaker

Dr. Kung-Yen Lee received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, the M.S.E.E. and the Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA. He is currently a professor with the Department of Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering and Graduate School of Advanced Technology in National Taiwan University. He is the director of NTU-ITRI (National Taiwan University-Industrial Technology Research Institute) Nano Center as well. Prof. Lee has worked on SiC power semiconductor devices, interface between oxide and SiC surface, and fabrication processes over twenty years. In addition, he has served as general chair, technical program committee members and session chairs for international conferences on power devices and power electronics, such as International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICSCRM), IEEE International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD), IEEE Workshop on Wide Bandgap Power Devices and Applications in Asia (WiPDA-Asia), International Conference on Solid State Devices and Materials (SSDM) and International Future Energy Electronics Conference (IFEEC), etc. He also serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices and will be the general chair of ICSCRM 2029 in Taiwan.
