The “Workshop on Technologies & Applied Research at the Future Valencian Proton-Therapy Facility” took place at the end of February in Valencia. It brought together the main agents and research groups involved in proton therapy research in Spain and Europe. Consuelo Guardiola, researcher at IMB-CNM, was a member of the Organizing Committee leading the contribution of the institute to the sessions.

Funded by the Program Interreg Sudoe of the European Union, it brings together institutions and companies from Spain, Portugal, France and the Principality of Andorra, with the collaboration of the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona. They will work on the development of devices that measure meteorological and environmental parameters relevant to fire risk assessment by municipalities and local communities in high fire risk areas.

The newly established collaboration pursues developments in the field of solid-state radiation detectors. The initiative brings together over 130 institutes worldwide and comprises 900 physicists.

Sargantana, the new generation of open source chips based on advanced RISC-V processors, was presented by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center on Wednesday, December 20, in the framework of the DRAC project. As in previous releases, IMB-CNM has collaborated in a critical part of the development.

Within the framework of the European project, which brings together 14 research centers, companies and Law Enforcement Agencies, the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC) has contributed to the development of new techniques and tools that have allowed the forensic analysis of 400 smartphones in real criminal cases.

César Fernández-Sánchez, researcher at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC), participates in another project focused on the development of a tool for the mass diagnosis of malaria, led by the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute. The ”la Caixa” Foundation promotes research in biomedicine and health in Spain and Portugal through a call funded with 25.3 million euros.

The technology of these smart patches that generate energy through sweat to analyze this fluid was developed at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona of the CSIC (IMB-CNM-CSIC). The technology provides information on the composition of sweat, a parameter that allows to know the tendency to dehydration of athletes and, on the other hand, to screen patients with cystic fibrosis.

The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC) participates in a project to improve the monitoring of fermentation and aging of Catalan wine farms through sensors and chips. The sensorization of wineries seeks to improve the economic performance of farms and better cope with the effects of climate change in the coming decades.
