The Mayor of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Carlos Cordón, accompanied by his cabinet, visited the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona on the occasion of the award of the City of Innovation seal to Cerdanyola and the deployment of the PERTE Microelectronics and Semiconductors, which considers the Clean Room of the CSIC, hosted and managed by the IMB-CNM, as a strategic asset.

The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona and its Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room, as the main node of the ICTS Micronanofabs, are considered a strategic asset in the Chip Strategic Project (Microelectronics and Semiconductors) and offers its experience in the design and manufacture of electronic devices and systems, as well as its capacity to train new professionals in these areas.

NANBIOSIS is one of the five ICTS in the area of health sciences and biotechnology and IMB-CNM is in charge of the Micro-Nano Technology Unit, as it is a place with the capacity for producing high quality CVD-graphene.

Two representatives of the Science and Technology Division of the Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) visited the IMB-CNM facilities with the Direction team.

The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona signs a statement together with universities and other research centers to support the FabCat proposal, an initiative to install in Catalonia a headquarters for one of the semiconductor factories to be built in the European Union.

Following agreement at the Institute's Board meeting in November and a first team meeting in December, the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona's Equality Committee is now up and running. The priorities are to analyze the situation of the center, identify problems and improve training in equality for all staff.

The IMB-CNM is one of the most active CSIC centers in transference to the industry and 2021 has been a very successful year keeping up the good synergies of the previous periods.

The IMB-CNM Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room opened in 1991 within the National Microelectronics Center, established in 1985. Francesc Serra i Mestres was its first director.
