This technology offers the functions of a miniature laboratory and imitates the functioning of the human brain and sensory system to examine aqueous substances at any time and place. AiQUOS is the new spin-off of CSIC and the University of Zurich born to bring this technology to society.
On March 6, 2025, the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) and the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC) successfully hosted the Bi(o)lateral Day, a scientific event dedicated to fostering collaboration in bio research and scientific services between the two neighboring institutes. The spin-off FlexiiC aims to design system-on-chip (SoC) solutions applied to intelligent systems and the Internet of Things. Its mission is to democratize and reinvent the world of electronics through a revolutionary organic and flexible technology, which will enable a new generation of sensors and logic circuits processed with functional inks at low temperatures on sustainable substrates.
The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona will receive 25 million euros to improve its infrastructure. The project includes, among other actions, the creation of a level 2 Bioelectronics Clean Room to evaluate electronic devices under biomedical conditions.
The IMB-CNM participated in the 15th Electronic Devices Conference, held in Malaga from January 28 to 30. Sixteen people traveled and participated in both oral and poster presentations.

On 24 January 1985, the creation of the National Microelectronics Centre (CNM) was approved, authorised by the Minister of Education and Science at the proposal of the President of the CSIC. Today we are celebrating 40 years of technological excellence at the service of society, with the CNM at its Barcelona headquarters (IMB-CNM) being a prominent player at European level with participation in two new European pilot lines and two JU chip competence centers.
