We fill the Raval with microelectronics with the 15th Festa de la Ciència!

More than 12,000 people have participated in the 15th Festa de la Ciència on the Rambla del Raval and more than 100 people have participated in the activities coordinated by the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona.

The institute has led two workshops and a micro-talk aimed at a young audience for the 15th Festa de la Ciència (Science Fest) that was held in Barcelona's Raval last weekend. The reception of the people was very good and around 12,000 people participated in the whole festival, while the workshops and the talk received more than 100 people during its realization.

The IMB-CNM led the workshop The energy in the palm of your hand related to the European Harvestore project, led by IREC, in which the MESSI group is involved. The initiative contained several interactive activities to show the little ones what the Internet of Things is and how power generation works. Joaquín Santander, Iñigo Martín and Luis Fonseca were responsible for the workshop, which was held on Saturday at noon.

On Saturday, the researcher Gemma Rius was also participating in a round table in the Debats space of the Fest. Jordi Díaz moderated the table "White Paper on Nanotechnologies" where the ethical, social, legislative, economic and educational aspects of nanotechnologies were discussed.

Sunday was a day dedicated to activities on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the invention of the transistor. The CIBER-BBN researcher in the Biomedical Applications Group, Elisabet Prats, prepared a talk on everything behind this invention, which many people consider key and one of the most important of the 20th century. The talk was in the "Microxerrades" space and was followed by audiences of all ages. "From grandpa's radio to Playstation 5: 75 years of the transistor" will be programmed more times throughout the year.

Late in the morning, the workshop Trip to the fascinating world of microelectronic integration! was held, for which Joan Marc Rafí, David Sánchez and Miguel Zabala were responsible. The workshop had various activities to make the young public understand how a transistor works within an electronic circuit. There were three circuits with different functionalities, as well as the possibility of making a puzzle or playing with pieces of silicon stones and wafers.

The workshops had an average capacity of 20 people at the same time, although the public was moving and changing stands easily. Around 100 people followed all the activities organized by the institute.
