Gonzalo Murillo, IMB-CNM researcher, awarded with the National Research Award for Young People in technology transfer

The 'Ángela Ruiz Robles' National Research Award for Young People, in the area of Technology Transfer, has been granted to Gonzalo Murillo Rodríguez for the quality and originality of his scientific production and its transfer and dissemination. The jury highlights his contribution to the generation of knowledge and transfer in the field of the use of electromechanical nanogenerators, as well as environmental energy recovery and intelligent materials. The Ministry of Science and Innovation announced the awards on September 22.

Murillo Rodríguez received the award for the quality and originality of his scientific production and its transfer and dissemination.

A Ramón y Cajal researcher at the CSIC's Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona with a long career at the center, Murillo is also the founder of the spin-off Energiot. The company specializes in the development of autonomous, miniaturized and intelligent wireless sensor nodes, which are candidates to be an active part of the constellation of Internet of Things devices. Recently, the team has developed an autonomous device to protect birds from power lines, awarded with the "Challenge" Birdlife Protection prize given by Iberdrola. In 2019, he received the Junior Leader Retaining postdoctoral fellowship from laCaixa.

National Research Awards

The acting Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, has announced the recipients of the National Research Awards 2023, which are Spain's most important recognition in the field of scientific research. Morant said that these awards highlight the value of scientists who, through their work, contribute to the advancement of science and therefore to a better life for society.

The National Research Awards, endowed with 30,000 euros for each category, distinguish those researchers in Spain who stand out for their career and international relevance in their respective areas of research. They also recognize the merit of young people -with a maximum age of 40 years- who have made relevant achievements in the early stages of their careers.

Of the 114 nominations accepted for the National Research Awards, 90 were men and 24 were women. The average age of the awardees is 61 years.

In the case of the National Research Awards for Young People, of the 185 applications accepted, 97 were from men and 88 from women. The average age of the award winners is 37 years.
