More than 35 industrial agreements and 6 exploitation license agreements mark a successful year at IMB-CNM in technology transfer

The IMB-CNM is one of the most active CSIC centers in transference to the industry and 2021 has been a very successful year keeping up the good synergies of the previous periods.

The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona is a research center with a high activity in the development of micro and nanotechnologies in a wide range of fields such as health, energy or physics. The center is highly involved in transference actions to the industry and 2021 marked a good year with many agreements.

The IMB-CNM signed 35 industrial agreements, meaning that the research done in the CSIC laboratory gets out to be developed by a specialized company to eventually arrive to the market.

The number of license agreements is much higher than the previous years, marking the highest value of the historical series since 2012. A total of 6 exploitation license agreements were signed. Sweanty is a new spin-off created in 2021 that develops new wearable solutions to analyze sweat ionic composition. Another licence was signed for the transference of graphene-technology for clinical applications in the field of neurology. In the last ten years, IMB-CNM has created 14 spin-offs, which represents a seventh part of the CSIC ones as a whole.

The institute also signed a couple of contracts with technology-based companies of the CSIC, like Array4Cells and Energiot.

Some of the highlights of the year was an agreement for the development of nanosatellites to be sent in space, the improvement of infrared sensor-based technology or new developments on technology applied in ophthalmology and neurology.
