IMB-CNM incorporates Mari Carmen Porto as its new managing director
Porto comes to the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC) with more than twenty years of experience in the management of a public institution.
The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC) incorporates Mari Carmen Porto, a computer engineer, as its new managing director. With extensive experience in research project management and administration, she brings more than twenty years of work in a public institution.
Porto holds a degree in Computer Engineering and a Master's degree in Business Administration, both from the Universidad Rafael Urdaneta in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Since its foundation in 2003, she worked at the Port d’Informació Científica (PIC), a scientific-technological center of CIEMAT and IFAE. There she was responsible for the management of national and international projects, in addition to coordinating administration, finance, human resources and purchasing. Previously, she had developed her career in Venezuela in oil services, telecommunications and IT consulting companies.
In terms of her approach, Porto will accompany the institute's staff in the research activity to improve the center's results and impact. The new head of the administration of IMB-CNM and of the Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room (part of the distributed network of the Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructure MICRONANOFABS), will also be responsible for the management and coordination of the Information Technology Service (IT), Maintenance, Library and Documentation Service and Communication and Outreach Office.
IMB-CNM strengthens its position as a national and international reference center in microelectronics with the arrival of Mari Carmen Porto, which coincides with a new stage of the institute as a María de Maeztu accredited center of excellence.
The new manager joins after the retirement of Mercedes Calderón, who served as IMB-CNM manager from 2018 to 2024. The deputy scientific director, Mar Álvarez, served as acting manager until this new addition.
