The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC) has once again joined the European Research Night with an informative proposal that has sparked the interest of children and adults alike. The event, held on September 26 at the CosmoCaixa Science Museum in Barcelona, brought together hundreds of people for workshops, demonstrations, and talks. Among them were three activities exploring how microelectronics contributes to solving social challenges.

Among the highlights of the Research Fair, where scientific demonstrations were held for two hours straight, the public was able to learn about an early malaria diagnosis platform developed as part of the CATMAL project, in which César Fernández-Sánchez, Manuel Gutiérrez Capitán, and Marco Henares Arjona participated.

The audience also had the opportunity to discover innovative sensors for FLASH radiotherapy and how silicon carbide detectors are developed, all within the DOSIFLASH project, led by Ángela Henao, Marcio Jiménez, and Achille Francone. Both initiatives are supported by the CaixaResearch Call for Health Research Proposals from the ”la Caixa” Foundation and generated great interest due to their potential impact on global health.

In addition, the workshop “Desperta la curiositat: què s’amaga dins d’un xip?” (Awaken your curiosity: what's inside a chip?) allowed younger members of the public to explore the inside of chips and how phones work. With the participation of Mercedes Saludes and Esteve Amat, this session was organized as part of the CHIPS project, in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology · Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

The active participation of the public, the diversity of ages, and the enthusiasm for learning confirm the success of this edition, in which the IMB-CNM maintains its commitment to scientific dissemination and the connection between research and society.

European Researchers’ Night

European Researchers' Night is a unique event held simultaneously in more than 400 cities across Europe. Once again, the IMB-CNM participated with activities at CosmoCaixa in Barcelona, with the aim of bringing science and research closer to the public through free activities for both families and adults. It is an event for all audiences: students, educators, families, teachers, and anyone interested in the world of science and research.
