Five CSIC groups are part of the new Tecnio Association to promote technology transfer in Catalonia
Up to 59 groups, five of them from the CSIC, are part of the new TECNIO Association to promote technology transfer and connection with the business world. The Group of Chemical Transducers, GTQ, is one of the units with the TECNIO seal.

The association was set up this week by the CSIC, the Catalan universities and the I-CERCA foundation, and its president is Nora Ventosa, a researcher at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC). The new association will receive a grant of 300,000 euros from ACCIÓ over the next 3 years to strengthen the market vision of these agents and bring them closer to companies.
On the part of the CSIC, the groups integrated in this association are two from the Institute of Advanced Chemistry in Catalonia (IQAC), one from the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM), one from the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB) and another from the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA). The Group of Chemical Transducers (GTQ) of the IMB-CNM, led by César Fernández, is one of the units integrated in the association and has held the seal since 2009.
The TECNIO seal is granted by ACCIÓ, the agency for the competitiveness of the company of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The seal identifies the technology development groups in Catalonia, and certifies that they carry out applied research in differential technologies and have the capacity to transfer it to the market through R&D projects with companies, patent licenses or the creation of grassroots emerging companies. technological. They are, therefore, research groups specialized in different topics, mostly located within Catalan universities, and distributed throughout the country, which are active with both SMEs and large companies in Catalonia and on a European scale.
One more step to strengthen the approach to companies
The TECNIO accreditation was born in 1999 and is periodically renewed. Between 2016 and 2019, the centers that had this accreditation obtained 300 million euros in total income and 90 million in R & D & i contracts with companies. At the same time, his applied research resulted in 61 patents that were transferred to companies and 17 spin-offs were created.
To boost the impact on the market of these research groups, since 2018 ACCIÓ has allocated more than 8 million euros to the INNOTEC line, aimed at developing R&D projects jointly developed between companies and TECNIO research groups or universities in areas such as ICT, biotechnology, photonics, manufacturing, new materials or nanotechnology, among others. With the creation of the new TECNIO Association, we want to take a further step to strengthen the approach to companies and the transfer of technology.
The TECNIO seal at the IMB-CNM
The Chemical Transducers Group approved the TECNIO seal accreditation process for the first time in 2009, granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, from which time it has maintained a quality management system. So now it is part of the TECNIO association. It is also one of the two CSIC groups within Catalonia with the ISO 9001:2015 quality seal.
