The director of the IMB-CNM, Luis Fonseca, joins the committee of experts of the PERTE Chip created by the Government

Luis Fonseca, director of the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona, joins the "council of wise men" of the PERTE Chip made up of the First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, to promote and attract investment to Spain around the chip industry and related technologies.

The researcher and director of the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona, Luis Fonseca, attended yesterday the first meeting of the "council of wise men" of the PERTE Chip headed by Nadia Calviño, First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation of the Government. Fonseca is thus integrated as a member of the committee together with other prestigious people in the sector. The objective of the body is to advance the governance of the PERTE and support its commissioner, Jaime Martorell.

"I appreciate the confidence to be part of the PERTE Chip Expert Group. My contribution will be to promote having infrastructures that ensure quality R&D+i in micro and nanoelectronics and that have pre-industrial capacity to produce", Fonseca indicates.

The council met yesterday for the first time to guide PERTE's next lines of action and includes both professionals from the academic and scientific fields (R+D+i centers) and business. Among the centers in Catalonia, the director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-National Supercomputing Center (BSC), Mateo Valero, and the director of the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), Lluís Torner, are also taking part. Mayte Bacete, general director of MaxLinear Hispania and promoter of the Valencia Silicon Cluster lobby; Ignacio Herrera, Director of Projects, Avionics and Advanced Systems at Sener Aeroespacial; María Luisa López Vallejo, Professor of Electronic Technology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid; Juan Carlos López, professor of Information Technologies and Systems at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Antonio Núñez, former director of the University Institute of Applied Microelectronics of the Canary Islands; Ezequiel Navarro, CEO of Grupo Premo; and Teresa Riesgo, Secretary General for Innovation at the Ministry of Science and Innovation, are the other members of this "council of wise men" along with María Merced, president of TSMC Europe, whose inclusion was announced on Monday.

The meeting also takes place after the news that Broadcom will install a wafer processing factory in Spain.
