The CSIC, through the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM), and the Aragon Institute of Technology (ITAINNOVA) sign a protocol to promote different activities for the design and manufacture of integrated circuits for industrial applications. Signed last March in Zaragoza, it strengthens relations between both institutions.

The document has been signed by Esther Borao, director of ITAINNOVA, and by Luis Fonseca, director of the IMB-CNM and representative of the CSIC at the meeting together with Ana Castro, Deputy Vice President of Knowledge Transfer of the CSIC.

The common specific objects of the protocol focus on stimulating the use of integrated circuits by companies, especially SMEs; avoid external dependence on manufacturers of integrated circuits; promote an industrial ecosystem of innovation based on semiconductors and increase the number of professionals in the microelectronics field.

To achieve these objectives, a set of common interest activities will be launched, such as collaboration to carry out design activities and development of joint research projects; joint participation in public and/or private calls to obtain funding for research projects. In addition, they will promote the organization of conferences, seminars and events on topics of common interest and the promotion of activities that involve transfer of knowledge and scientific results between the parties and towards the productive sector.

The promotion of the joint dissemination of research results through the usual channels (publications, conferences, etc.) is another of the actions of this commitment, as well as promoting innovation growth policies. Also, it is intended to improve the training of personnel by carrying out stays of the personnel of each party in the headquarters or facilities of the other and any other action that is compatible with the general goals of the protocol.

The duration of the protocol will be five years, with extension by signing an addendum, for a period of up to five additional years.

After signing the protocol, CSIC members have been able to learn about some ITAINNOVA projects and research. On behalf of ITAINNOVA, Miguel Ángel Pérez Costero, Fernando Arteche, José Luis Núñez, David Abadía, Javier Orús and Miguel Ángel Barcelona also participated in the visit.
