The IMB-CNM organizes two activities on the occasion of the Open Gov Week, which begins on Monday 27 in all public administrations. An online talk and an open day are the outreach activities that will be carried out to bring science closer to citizens and put the institution at the service of the public.

All the chips big and small

Online talk in Spanish by Luis Fonseca, director of the IMB-CNM, on Wednesday 29 at 5:00 p.m. Todos los chips grandes y pequeño will take a trip explaining the current semiconductor crisis and the process of making a chip.

They are everywhere and alarms go off when they are scarce... why are chips missing? Electricity and information are one of the main vectors of our society and of our productive and economic system. The first industrial revolution was around steam, but the successive ones have been electricity, electronics and information. That's why we need more semiconductors than ever! Today's memories and processors are made in semiconductor factories that are the epitome of technological complexity and the pinnacle of efficiency and productivity. To produce them, large spaces are needed, the Clean Rooms. The IMB-CNM, on the UAB campus, houses the CSIC's Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room, a unique ICTS with 1,500 square meters of surface area to produce semiconductors. It is the largest space in southern Europe with its characteristics.

Fonseca will give some keys to understanding the microchip crisis that has caused delays in the supply of technological objects, such as the release of the PlayStation 5.

Open Day

On Wednesday 29 at 11 am we will open the doors of the institute to all audiences. From the hand of scientific and technical staff, you will be able to know what a research center is like inside, what the Clean Room is like and what we do in it! The IMB-CNM holds sessions of this type periodically throughout the year, in an effort to bring our facilities closer to the general public. Attendance at the guided tour next Wednesday will be in strict order of registration.

Open Government Week

Open Government Week is an initiative promoted worldwide by the Alliance for Open Government (Open Gov Week), which in 2022 will be held from May 16 to 20 (postponed to the week of June 27 to 1 July 2022). Its main objective is to bring Public Administrations closer to citizens, based on the principles of Open Government: transparency, accountability, citizen participation, public integrity and collaboration.

In Spain, the Open Gov Week (Semana de la Administración Abierta) is coordinated and promoted by the General Directorate of Public Governance, with the collaboration of the Open Government Forum.
