Occupational Risk Prevention (ORP) Committee

The prevention of occupational risks consists of developing a permanent action of identification, evaluation and control of occupational risks. For this reason, the IMB-CNM prevention committee carries out, based on the occupational risk assessment report made by the CSIC's ORP services or by an external company, a follow-up of the actions taken to solve the risks identified in the report, as well as a report of the preventive activity carried out during the year. In the event of an accident at work, you should remain calm, observe the situation before acting, and act quickly, but without haste. In the event of an emergency, the PWA emergency system should be activated: Protect, Warn, Aid.

Currently, medical care for occupational accidents is provided by the Mutua FREMAP. In this link you will find instructions on how to act in the event of an accident at work. To summarize, in the event of a minor situation, you should:

• Inform the person responsible for human resources to contact the mutual company about what has happened (HR: annabel.munoz@imb-cnm.csic.es).
• The person in charge will choose the nearest FREMAP assistance center, fill out the assistance request form, and ensure that the injured person is medically accompanied and documented.
• Once the injured person has been attended, he/she must give a copy of the proof of attendance/leave to the person responsible for human resources at the IMB-CNM.

Workers from companies or from other CSIC ICUS, who come to IMB-CNM facilities to perform any kind of task, must previously fill in the corresponding documentation in accordance with the procedure for the coordination of business activities (CAE) at CSIC. The IMB-CNM CAE documentation is available on the intranet.

The processing of the CAE is done differently depending on the type of access or activity to be performed:

• For external companies coming to perform some kind of activity (maintenance, equipment installation, etc.) simply check the CAE box when making the command request.
• For personnel from other ICUS who want to access the ICTS, they should contact the technical manager of the ICTS (miguel.zabala@imb-cnm.csic).
• For staff from other ICUS who want access to the scientific-technical services or other laboratories of the IMB-CNM (for collaboration within projects with IMB-CNM staff), they should contact the institute management (gerencia@imb-cnm.csic.es).

According to RD 773/1997, "personal protective equipment" means any equipment intended to be worn or held by the worker to protect him/her from one or more risks that may threaten his/her safety or health, as well as any complement or accessory intended for such purpose.

Excluded from this definition are:

• Ordinary work clothing and uniforms that are not specifically intended to protect the health or physical integrity of the worker.
• The equipment of the rescue and rescue services.
• The personal protective equipment of the military, of the police and of the persons of the services of maintenance of order.
• The personal protective equipment of the means of road transport.
• Sports equipment.
• Self-defense or deterrence equipment.
• Portable devices for the detection and signaling of risks and nuisance factors.

The IMB-CNM provides a PPE to all its workers according to the needs of the activities they carry out.

The CSIC has launched the Emotional Care Program, which is the instrument with which the institution seeks to collaborate with the improvement of the well-being and mental health of all CSIC staff within the framework of its activities. It is a program that includes a psychological tele-attention service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, attended by a specialist health psychology team, registered and experienced in business environments. Both the identity and content of the calls are completely anonymous and confidential. You can make use of the PAE through:

The CSIC also has a Protocol for the prevention and intervention against sexual and gender-based harassment in the CSIC (see leaflet in Annex 6.2). The general objective of the Protocol is to prevent possible situations of sexual or gender-based harassment, in any of its forms and modalities, in all CSIC Institutes, Centers and Units (hereinafter ICU), and to deal with them effectively, should they occur.

The IMB-CNM has a self-protection plan (PAU), renewed in January 2023, available on the institute's intranet.

People visiting the IMB-CNM must attend to a series of instructions to ensure their safety inside the institute. This information is available in this leaflet (Spanish).

In the case of outreach guided visits, visitors must read the safety instructions beforehand and sign a document to enter the facilities. These visits are organized by the Scientific Culture Office (contact: cultura@imb-cnm.csic.es).

Training in preventive matters is part of the workers' right to effective protection in occupational safety and health, according to the Occupational Risk Prevention Law.

The CSIC's ORP service offers a series of training pills and courses, some of which are mandatory. This training is carried out on-line through the CSIC training platform. Access to the platform is done using the CSIC corporate intranet passwords. The certificate corresponding to each training pill/course completed must be sent to the person responsible for Human Resources at IMB-CNM.

Waste management refers to aspects related to the generation, separation and treatment at the source of origin of waste, as well as its collection, transfer and transportation, treatment, recycling and final disposal of waste. The prevention committee has made a manual that aims to facilitate the collaboration of the people who are part of the IMB-CNM to make a correct and adequate management of the waste generated in the processes carried out in the daily operation of the institute.

The IMB-CNM has its own welcome and farewell plan. This document includes a brief description of the Institute, aspects of general operating rules, a summary of the main aspects related to occupational hazards, as well as useful information regarding the representative bodies and services provided by the administration and the existing laboratories and facilities. It also includes an exit or farewell plan for when personnel leave the Institute.
