The Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM) is taking part in the European Researchers’ Night 2026, a European initiative that brings research and science closer to the public. The event features an extensive programme of science outreach activities organised by research centres, universities and other institutions.

Its official date is the last Friday of September, which this year falls on 25 September. IMB-CNM will take part in activities held at different locations across the province of Barcelona, specifically at CosmoCaixa in Barcelona and on the campus of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in Bellaterra. In the latter case, the activities will take place on 2 October, one week after the official date.

"Speed Dating" in the Science Museum of CosmoCaixa

  • Date: Friday 25 September 2026, from 18h to 20h
  • Place: CosmoCaixa Museum, Gradas, Floor -5

Using a dynamic and engaging format such as Speed Dating, participants will rotate from one table to another, where they will meet researchers from different disciplines and have the opportunity to ask them questions. A bell or alarm will signal when it is time to move on to the next table and, thus, the next researcher.

From IMB-CNM, Jordi Antoja Lleonart will participate until 19h.

Microtalks "Research at scene"

  • Date: Friday 25 September 2026, from 18h to 19:15h
  • Place: CosmoCaixa Museum, Auditorium, Floor -2

Through entertaining microtalks with a touch of humour, researchers will explain different scientific topics. Among the participants will be Joel Pérez i Poncelas and Sandra Pérez Jiménez, researchers at IMB-CNM, with the microtalks "Microxips contra incendis: David contra Goliat" and "Grafeno: Cómo 6 átomos pueden salvarnos la vida", respectively.

Workshop “The small changes the world”

  • Date: Friday 25 September 2026, from 19:30h to 20h
  • Place: CosmoCaixa Museum, Floor -2

In this hands-on, family-friendly workshop, participants will discover in a simple and fun way what a transistor is. Through a demonstration with an LED circuit, they will observe how it works and, to make it even more surprising, the circuit will be closed using their voice!

Carried out by Yohana López Aparicio, Núria Barrera Gutiérrez and Jordi Antoja Lleonart.

Quiz "Conect if you can" in UAB

  • Date: Friday 2 of October of 2026, from 17h to 20h
  • Place: UAB Campus

Participants will put their knowledge of nanoscience and nanotechnology to the test with this quiz, either competing individually or in teams.

Coordinated activity by Maria Benito and Gemma Rius, researchers at IMB-CNM.

A night to explore

The European Researchers’ Night is a major science outreach event that brings science and the people behind it closer to the general public through a wide range of activities. Promoted by the European Commission as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), the initiative takes place simultaneously in cities across Europe, enabling large-scale science communication and public engagement at a continental level.
