IMB-CNM talks: Self-powered smart patch for cystic fibrosis screening

Abstract:In the presented work, we have developed the first self-powered conductivity sensor focused on screening Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The main core of the device is a paper battery-sensor able to discriminate between different sweat conductivities. The whole device performs the screening of Cystic Fibrosis by measuring the conductivity of the sample, giving a positive result when the CF condition is detected. The validation of the device has been performed following the guidelines of Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute by testing 40 devices with artificial sweat.
The device has been implemented by integrating a paper battery-sensor in a flexible substrate with a printed electronic circuit, discrete electronic components and electrochromic displays. The design of the electronic circuit has been conceived based on a minimal electronics approach to ultimately make it totally printable.
